Is Wing Classical Academy governed by a Board?

Yes. The Board consists of community members who are committed to ensuring the mission of the Academy is executed.

Are teachers certified by the State of Michigan?

Certification is not a requirement of employment. As a private school we focus on finding educators who have a passion for teaching, mastery of content, a love of children, and a love of Christ.

All of our teachers have at least a Bachelor’s Degree and most have at least on Master’s Degree. Some either have had or currently have a certification, at their own discretion. 

Do teachers and volunteers undergo background checks?

Yes. We use the State of Michigan background check process. We also employ a private firm who performs an extensive nationwide background check on employees. 

Is classical education only for the "gifted"?

Not at all. Classical education provides a solid foundation in wisdom and virtue that applies to all of us. As image bearers of God, the goal is not an “elite” life, it is a life of meaning and purpose which is pointed toward the True, the Good, and the Beautiful.

What is the typical class size?

2026/2027 is our third year as a school. We have 28 students with 4 full-time classroom teachers and 2 part time teachers. Our student to teacher ratio is low and allows us to address the needs of each student.

Is Wing tied to a specific denomination of Christianity?

We think of ourselves as multi-denominational. Our Statement of Faith outlines the worldview which is the foundation of our Academy’s culture. All staff must sign our Statement. Parents are not required to confess our Statement of Faith but must sign to affirm that they understand and accept that their children will be taught in accordance with it.

What safety procedures are there?

We do regular staff training regarding all aspects of student safety.

We have written procedures and practice them.

School doors are locked during the day and entrance to the school is vetted.

In accordance with Michigan state law, we provide our parents with access to the MDE website regarding gun safety.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes!

We are a team and we wear our team uniforms! They help to create a distraction-free environment and to focus us on the work to be done.

Students have even mentioned that on “dress-down” days they feel less motivated and focused.

What is the homework policy?

Our general philosophy is that time after school should be reserved for family or extracurricular activities as much as possible.

In the Grammar school, we assign homework only when work has not been completed in class. The exception is that all students are expected to read or be read to for 15 minutes per night. Further, practice memorizing bible verses or math facts may require parent assistance.

As students approach Logic School (7-8th grades), homework is more likely due to the increasing rigor of classes. However, we make every effort to keep homework minimal.
